Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Science is currently seeking applications for a regular, full-time faculty member to join the Biology and Health Science Department supporting our B.Sc. and B.Sc. (Honours) Major in Biology degree programs.
We are excited to welcome a new faculty member who will collaborate with our team to grow our programs. The successful candidate will be required to teach Ecology (BIOL 2322) as well as introductory biology courses. Experience teaching upper-level courses within the area of ecology and organismal biology, such as Conservation Biology (BIOL 3165), Animal Behaviour (BIOL 3110), and Zoology (BIOL 3215) is also required.
More information concerning the working conditions for a faculty member are outlined in Article 12 of the Kwantlen Faculty Association (KFA) Collective Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We encourage applications from scholars with teaching and research expertise in a range of ecology subdisciplines, but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in community ecology, sustainability, biodiversity or conservation biology. Additionally, the successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and laboratory colleagues to develop new upper-level ecology courses and participate in the review and revision of the first-year biology curriculum.
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated teaching excellence at the post-secondary level, excellent written and oral communication skills, and possesses, at minimum, a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biology or related discipline with a specialization in ecology. Demonstrated experience with curriculum design and the scholarship of teaching and learning in science or enthusiasm for these areas are assets.
Beyond these qualifications, we seek a new faculty member with strengths in the development and application of research and pedagogy in ecology and a keen interest in supervising undergraduate student research, which is a significant component of our focus in applied biology. We also seek a scholar excited to develop connections to industry, government, and community partners to advance course-based experiential learning opportunities.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A complete application must include the following:
- A curriculum vitae outlining relevant teaching and research experience
- A teaching philosophy statement articulating your beliefs around learning and teaching. It should also communicate how your outlook might positively impact the biology department, faculty colleagues, and students (maximum one page).
- A research statement describing how you will apply your research to support undergraduate teaching (maximum one page).
- Names of three referees willing to comment on your ability to contribute to a degree-granting Biology department.
