What are we looking for?
Cleveland Clinic London are looking to recruit a Biomedical Engineering Manager to join our Clinical Engineering Team.
As a Biomedical Engineering Manager, you will spearhead the technical operations of a forward-thinking clinical engineering service. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the life cycle management of various medical devices, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards. Acts as a direct point of contact for clinical staff and equipment users, offering specialized technical insight and guidance on asset management across diverse medical equipment throughout their life spans. This role demands extensive technical proficiency and the capacity to operate autonomously in both technical and administrative capacity.
Additionally, accountable for directly supervising and leading a team of four engineers, including oversight of performance appraisals, workshop schedules, and On-Call rotations. Support the Head of Clinical Engineering and serve as a deputy when required, contributing to strategic decision-making, and ensuring smooth departmental operations.

What will your duties include?

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all medical equipment and devices within CCL.
  • Continually improve equipment lifecycle management, including replacement planning and disposal.
  • Manage preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the safe and reliable operation of medical equipment.
  • Coordinate and oversee repairs and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment, either in-house or through third-party service providers.
  • Ensure that all medical equipment complies with regulatory standards and quality control measures.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory requirements, such as MHRA, GDPR, HIPPA and ensure that all equipment meets these requirements.
  • Lead and direct line manage a team of 4 clinical engineers providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide feedback to team members.
  • Meet objectives by contributing information and recommendations to department plans and reviews including achieving compliance with Quality Management accreditation.

What we need from you?

  • First Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or an appropriate relevant engineering degree (essential)
  • MSc in Engineering or an equivalent level of relevant knowledge obtained through a combination of qualifications and experience (desirable )
  • Eligible for membership of a relevant Professional Institute such as AHCS, IPEM, IET (essential)
  • Strong analytical including proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages (essential)
  • Ability to understand the clinical work and data flows
  • Awareness of Medical Devices Regulation, GDPR, ISO 9001-2015, risk management for IT-networks incorporating medical devices
  • Proven experience in clinical engineering or a similar role within the healthcare industry (essential)
  • Strong understanding of medical equipment life cycle management, regulatory compliance, and industry standards (essential)
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology, including medical imaging systems, diagnostic equipment, and therapeutic devices (essential)
  • Experience of working with Asset Management and ERP databases (essential)
  • Knowledge of the safe operation and techniques used within a maintenance environment (essential)
  • Effective teaching skills (essential)
