Description:

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • HCPC post-registration recent histology laboratory experience
  • Experience of UKAS assessments and knowledge of the ISO standard
  • Degree-level education (BSc in Biomedical Sciences) and IBMS specialist portfolio or MSc
  • Experience in using a LIMS system and in experience in patient data entry
  • Experience in Cytology
  • Experience in Mohs

SUMMARY OF ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (NHS Band 6 equivalent) to join our Histopathology Department. This role is a based at our Harley Street location (W1G 7JL). We are also offering a competitive salary range of £39,797 to £49,316 per annum plus a fantastic array of benefits.

The specialist biomedical scientist (BMS) role is to assist the Senior BMS and Chief BMS in providing an efficient and effective service within the Histopathology Department. To ensure that scientific standards are maintained and that Clinic policies are adhered to at all times.

  • To assist the senior biomedical scientists in carrying out the routine histology tasks in the following areas: Embedding, microtomy, special staining, immunohistochemistry, specimen handling, biopsy/small tissue transfers, frozen sectioning and internal quality control checking of stained slides.
  • To follow policy and procedures at all times.
  • To process internal and external quality assurance.
  • To assist in the evaluation of new equipment and method verification.
  • To assist in the maintenance of stock control.
  • After documented training and competency assessment, to operate and maintain the analytical equipment and perform testing in the section.
  • To participate on a rotational shift pattern in all areas of the routine and specialised laboratory bench work.
  • To observe the departmental quality and health and safety policies.
  • To comply with the quality management system.
  • To undertake in-house audits.
  • To maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of current developments.
  • To comply with data entry and governance requirements at all times.
  • To promote the smooth running of the department.
  • To be an excellent role model for junior staff.
  • To deliver excellent customer service.
  • To assist in the preparation of documentation.
  • The post-holder will participate in annual joint review
