Description:

Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist night worker in Haematology and Blood Transfusion based at St Mary’s Hospital.
A modernised clinical pathology service, proud to deliver excellence for users, patients and staff.
North West London Pathology (NWLP) is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust. The partnership represents a model for delivering pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 25 million tests per year. Our services are delivered at seven hospital sites across North West London.
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Haematology and Blood Transfusion night worker team, within Blood Sciences, at St Mary’s Hospital.
As a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist you will work as a member of the night worker team to a set pattern covering Haematology and Blood Transfusion at SMH.
The Departments of Haematology and Blood Transfusion offer the opportunity to work in a well-equipped, open plan, spacious and modern environment with a high level of automation. You will be working with new, state of the art analysers including the Abbott Alinity h series, Stago Star Max, Alifax ESR analysers, Sebia Capillary Electrophoresis, Spectrophotometry, HPLC technology and IH1000 Blood Grouping analysers.
You will also have the opportunity to be trained in and then undertake blood film morphology examination across a wide range of both adult and paediatric cases from routine to complex. St Mary’s Blood Sciences incudes the NWLP Special Haematology hub, which provides a wide range of both routine and high-level specialised haemoglobinopathy, enzymopathy and membranopathy tests. The Blood Transfusion medicine laboratory supports the major trauma services delivered by St Mary’s as one of the London Major Trauma Centres and additionally provides support for complex obstetric, vascular, haemoglobinopathy and bone marrow transplant patients.
St Mary’s haematology provides scientific and clinical support for complex and overseas morphology and haemoglobinopathy referral cases providing staff with the opportunity to develop in a wide range of interesting and specialised areas.
Benefits include career development, flexible working, staff wellbeing programmes, staff awards and recognition scheme. We also have available benefits including cycle to work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Our busy department is fully computerised (Sunquest and Telepath). The Pathology department utilises the Q-Pulse Quality Management System.
Applications are sought from self-motivating individuals who are currently registered with the HCPC, and with sufficient previous experience in the relevant disciplines. Applicants must have a desire to pro-actively learn and develop within our busy laboratories.
We are committed to your personal and professional development and you will have opportunities to fulfil your potential with NWLP.
