This post is for a Biomedical support worker to work as part of a clinical laboratory research team in the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) laboratory team working, on various clinical trial studies including the ongoing Covid-19 vaccine studies. The CRF laboratory team has been commended both internally and externally for the quality of its work, and level of teamwork and members have been included in multiple peer-reviewed publications.
The CRF laboratory provides the first processing steps for >350 clinical trial studies before samples are dispatched to central laboratories worldwide. Standard hours are Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00 however flexibility is essential to allow for early, late, or very occasional weekend samples to fit with clinical trial parameters.

The appointee will take responsibility for the receipt and tracking, processing, storage and sending of specimens taken as part of the research programmes.
Responsibilities will also include ensuring the lab is clean, tidy and well-stocked with consumables and ensuring sample data is accurately recorded on electronic and paper logs.
The post requires someone with experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally working with blood and clinical specimens and the ability to work in collaboration with a team of research nurses and clinical investigators.
Laboratory experience including handling of biological samples both on desktop and within material safety cabinets, GCP training, IATA training and the use of sample tracking software such as Freezerworks is desirable.
The post holder will collect and process samples according to established protocols ensuring accurate documentation.
The post holder will liaise with sponsors, investigators and other research staff involved in research studies and advise on their sample collection, processing, analytical procedures and downstream queries.
