Description:
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) currently have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, innovative, quality driven, qualified Biomedical Scientist to work in a multi-disciplinary Blood Sciences department. The post-holder will be based in the multi-disciplinary Blood Sciences department at Warwick Hospital and will have the opportunity to rotate across the CWPS network including both the Hub Site at George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton and the Specialist Site based at UHCW Hospital, Coventry.
Applications are invited from applicants who are suitably qualified and have HCPC registration and NHS Experience.
Commitment to the provision of a 24/7service is a necessary requirement for this post and the successful applicant will be expected to fully participate in the out-of-hours system once trained.

Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures
Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical non conformity and when to inform the line manager
Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation
As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them
Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal record

Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff
Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff
Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service
To regularly inform and discuss progress of training towards a post registration specialist competence portfolio, with the laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.
