JOB DESCRIPTION
The Age is looking for a Breaking News Reporter to join their news team.
The role will partner directly with the editors of the masthead, as well as their counterparts at The Sydney Morning Herald in Sydney.
Day to day you will:
- Prepare clear, accurate, balanced, well-written stories in a timely manner
- Ensure all copy meets legal requirements
- Take ownership of stories/issues and follow up stories when appropriate
- Demonstrate excellent news judgment and knowledge of current affairs
- Ensure the highest standard of accuracy, ethics and editorial quality
- Meet agreed deadlines
- We are a seven-day newsroom and weekends and public holidays will be required
- The role is a hybrid position based in our Docklands office and will include day + night shifts (including weekends) on a rotating roster.
Please note there will be a writing test as part of the interview process.
QUALIFICATIONS
What we would like to see on your resume:
- Previous experience in a major newsroom
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to deliver to tight deadline
- Proven ability to quickly respond to breaking news and an ability to identify contacts for comment
