Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer to be based in AECOM’s Chicago, Ill. office.
This full-time position will support our bridge practice out of our Illinois and other Midwest / Western U.S. offices. This career enhancing position will involve performing transportation structure design analysis, including plan preparation of structures in the Chicago Metro area, Illinois and exposure and contributing to project work throughout the Western U.S.
This important role offers participation in a variety of challenging projects and a dynamic work environment due to the number, type and size of bridges that make up the vast portfolio of the experienced bridge group this engineer will be joining.

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
+ Prepare structural designs, plans, specifications and cost estimate for transportation structures including bridges, retaining walls, and drainage structures.
+ Provide load rating analysis, rehabilitation concepts and structure type analysis evaluations.
+ Use current engineering design software.
+ Coordinate with other design teams and disciplines.
+ Perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
+ Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
+ Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
+ Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered.
+ Identify discrepancies in results.
+ Provide guidance to entry level engineers.
+ Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision..
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in a professional engineering-related work environment with a heavy emphasis on the design of highway bridges
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
  • SE license, or ability to obtain the same in the next 2 years.
  • PE license in the state of IL or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
  • Experience with Illinois DOT / IL Tollway / City of Chicago bridge project work.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as Microstation, LEAP Bridge Concrete, MDX, AASHTOWare etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, develop technical reports, and manage client communication.
  • Need to be able to perform work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of 3D finite element software such as CSiBridge, MIDAS, SAP2000, etc.
  • Railroad bridge design experience is a plus.

  • Offered rate of compensation in Chicago, Ill. will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $75,000. - $125,000.
