Description:

ATCS is looking for a qualified Bridge Engineer to join our Structural Engineering practice. This role can report out of any ATCS office location, although candidates local to Herndon, VA and Richmond, VA are preferred. We offer a flex, hybrid environment. Experience with projects and clients in ATCS markets is highly desired.
This role will include performing simple and complex analysis, design, and documentation of various transportation structures with emphasis on single and multi-span bridges, culverts, retaining walls, foundations, sign structures, and ITS structures. This position will work closely with our Director of Structural Engineering to help expand this discipline companywide. This position will function as a technical leader, will coordinate overall design activities, project submissions, and will be responsible for additional Quality Assurance and Quality Control duties to help ensure the final products meet the technical requirements and goals of our clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Civil and Structural Engineering from ABET accredited engineering program
  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) in Virginia is preferred, but PE licensure in other ATCS markets (PA, MD, NC or SC) is also highly desired.
  • Well versed in DOT standards, procedures, and specifications
  • 5 to 20 years of experience with inspection & design of bridges and related highway structures
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and other highway structures

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bridge Safety Inspection certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with design and analysis using various materials including steel, precast and cast-in-place concrete; prestressed and post-tensioned concrete and timber.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Possesses knowledge of VDOT or PennDOT design software
  • Possesses knowledge/understanding of finite element and 2D/3D modeling program(s)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate with others to explore alternative solutions
  • Comfortable performing in an environment that requires independent evaluation, judgment and decision making
  • Proficient with Microstation and/or Open Bridge Designer
