Description:

As the Broadcast Engineer you’ll be responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and operating equipment used in the PGA facility. Your duties include ensuring the quality and reliability of audio and video transmission, troubleshooting technical issues, configuring broadcast systems within the TFC ecosystem. In your position you may also collaborate with production teams to optimize broadcast workflows and implement new technologies to enhance the broadcasting process. This role is based out of Ponte Vedra, Florida but some travel within the US will be required. Key duties include:

  • Work with end users on technical issues including software system design and maintenance. Reach SLA targets for any support issues assigned
  • Provide reporting on deployment and ensure that software is able to be automatically built and deployed
  • Analyse and report on performance and availability of production deployments
  • Write tutorials and contribute to the software manual in Confluence
  • Test automation systems including redundant systems and disaster recovery systems
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues and outages including on-call support where appropriate
  • Develop scripts for automation of tasks
  • Consult with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements
  • Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status
  • Take lead on projects as needed. Provide direction to other developers on this project

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Broadcast Engineer or in a similar role.
  • A strong understanding of audiovisual equipment, broadcasting technologies, signal flow, and transmission systems is essential. This includes knowledge of video cameras, audio mixers, routers, switchers, encoding/decoding equipment, and other broadcast-related hardware.
  • Problem-solving abilities: you need to be adept at troubleshooting technical issues that arise during live broadcasts or production.
  • Communication skills: Effective communication is vital for coordinating with production teams, conveying technical information, and collaborating with colleagues to address broadcast challenges. Broadcast engineers should be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Adaptability: The broadcasting industry is constantly evolving with new technologies and standards. In this role you will need to stay updated on the latest developments and be flexible in adapting to changes in equipment, workflows, and production requirements.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (SMTE2110 in particular): Broadcast engineers should be familiar with industry standards and regulations governing broadcasting practices, such as FCC regulations for radio and television broadcasts. Compliance with these standards ensures that broadcasts meet legal requirements and maintain quality and reliability.
  • Strong work ethic: Broadcasting often involves long hours and demanding schedules, especially during live events or breaking news coverage. Broadcast engineers should be dedicated, reliable, and willing to work irregular hours to support broadcast operations effectively.
