ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Building Surveyor you will manage and promote the provision of your area of expertise and contribute to the successful development and implementation of the Council’s asset management and maintenance, and other Council projects, to meet the requirements of a condition survey across the entire estate including residential estate, care homes and schools. The role also requires a high degree of coordination across the compliance function of the Corporate Estate service to provide the organisation with a planned maintenance programme, taking a high degree of personal responsibility.
Together with good computer literacy, communication and extensive knowledge in carrying out maintenance and testing plant and equipment is key for this role. Attention to detail is vital for this demanding post which will require excellent computer skills and the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.
Reporting to the Senior Surveyors as part of the Corporate Estate Service, this role will contribute to the successful development and implementation of the Council’s asset management condition survey programmes and other Council projects.
The role is permanent, and one of its main purposes is to play a full role in the professional team that will contribute to the assessment of the physical condition of the council’s buildings in a systematic driven operation.
The ideal candidate will have a track record in providing a comprehensive understanding of the condition of a building and identifying areas that need to be addressed, in a complex estate, using prioritisation and risk management at the heart of the planned programmes.
The successful candidate will play an important role within the wider Corporate Estate team with responsibility for ensuring the council’s assets are maintained in accordance with current legislation in a safe cost effective and energy efficient manner. A working knowledge of the complexities of working within a heritage estate would be an advantage.
