Description:

Student Awards Services (SAS) provide means tested financial support to NHS Wales students undertaking healthcare courses at universities in Wales and also Welsh domiciled students undertaking medical and dental courses at universities throughout the UK. Additional funding is provided to students with disabilities, dependents and childcare needs.

Responsible for receiving means tested applications, checking receipt of evidence and assessment of bursary and allowance eligibility. Post holder works to well defined procedures and protocols and has autonomy to refer to manager when required.

  • Assess and authorise promptly and accurately, within set deadlines, financial applications for means tested NHS bursaries, disabled student allowance (DSA) and childcare allowance (CCA) in line with the NHS Wales Bursary Scheme and in accordance with SAS procedural instructions, so that student support is provided in line with current regulations. For example review application evidence and apply set criteria within Dependents Allowance procedure to calculate allowance entitlement
  • Reassess and calculate funding for Students who undergoes change of financial circumstances during funding year e.g. Student returned to study, redundancy.
  • Regularly required to verify income and other documents from a variety of sources and make judgements on their suitability as evidence.
  • Ensure that accuracy is maintained in all procedures for audit purposes
  • Communicate in a way that ensures full participation displaying personal commitment to continuous improvement and best practice with colleagues across SAS.
