Description:

We are currently expanding our global Analyst team and seeking to recruit a Business Analyst (Shipping and Commodities) for our APAC division, to be based in our Singapore office. The role will focus on preparing assessments on the counterparty/credit risk of companies in the shipping and commodity trading sectors, working within Infospectrum’s multinational team of almost 60 analysts worldwide.
We want to hear from talented individuals with analytical skills and a business/finance-focused, research-oriented background allied to a 2.1 degree from a leading academic institution or an equivalent professional qualification. The nature of the position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to research, assimilate, interpret, and analyze detailed information and present it in clear, concisely written English to tight deadlines.
Job Description & Requirements
To provide Infospectrum clients in the maritime, energy, and commodity trading industries with vital targeted research into, and impartial assessment of, counterparty risk.
The Analyst’s job is to research, conduct commercial due diligence and prepare profile reports on companies, principally in the marine, energy, and commodities (softs and metals) sectors. The reports, which result from a range of different levels of research, are detailed structured documents outlining the registered details, history, current operations, developments, financial status, performance and market reputation of the company in question. The key section of the report is the final assessment and rating of the company in light of the particular business proposition. This could include a large transaction on credit, an exposure on OTC derivatives trading, a contractual agreement, an investment appraisal and others. Reports are frequently needed at very short notice, so you will have to develop the skill to work quickly, hence efficiently.
While there is a requirement to be able to interpret financial statements, a large part of the entities that we research and report on are registered offshore in non-disclosure jurisdictions. To address this, what lnfospectrum is also looking for in potential candidates is the ability to uncover information, which, by definition, is often hard to find. As every company is unique, the Analyst must find a way to unlock this uniqueness and present it in clear, coherent, grammatical English. The position is challenging, requiring the ability to think laterally. You will need very sound commercial sense and the capacity to empathise with the client’s needs. You will have to have an international outlook and an interest in current affairs, in addition to a basic knowledge of the structure of the international industry. Once you become an established Analyst, your role will include helping the company to further develop its presence in the international marketplace. You are expected to be a natural and effective communicator and maintain regular contact with our clients and our Analyst teams at our UK offices in Oxford and London, and our regional offices in the Americas, Europe and Australia.
A high level of integrity and trust is essential, and a proven and successful track record, in a risk management capacity, in the shipping or energy/commodity trading sectors, or relevant experience from the financial or auditing sectors, will be advantageous. Advanced Excel knowledge is also a plus
