Description:

A law firm needs a lot of talented, driven people – but they can’t all be lawyers. We’re looking for a Business Development Manager, who will be excited by challenging prospects and being part of a platform built for success as well as service excellence.
You will proactively create and manage the implementation of the Luxembourg legal BD plans for each service line. Liaising with partners, fee earners (and the global BD team as appropriate) to agree strategy and analyse, assess and prioritise new business development opportunities locally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Luxembourg Business Development (BD) plans and budgets for the relevant service lines, including planning and delivering events
  • Ensure regular planning and review meetings are scheduled with each of the service line teams and that planned activity is budgeted for, reviewed and monitored on a monthly basis (tracking actual spend against budget)
  • Translate the service line BD plans into specific partner BD plans with assigned responsibilities and targets, providing updates against progress as required
  • Develop effective targeting strategies and target lists, utilising the BD Client Research and Data Team and the firm’s CRM system, InterAction
  • Co-ordinate Luxembourg trips and other BD activity engaging with the Client Development Team in London, New York and Hong Kong - acting as an interconnector between the Luxembourg Partners and colleagues in other jurisdictions
  • Co-ordinate training opportunities, webinars and presentations – joining up with the Partners, senior lawyers and contacts at intermediaries and financial institutions
  • Build own network of BD peers within target clients and intermediaries, in support of the service line business development plans and service line team activity
  • Actively identify and build relationships with key industry associations, memberships and networks to enhance the profile and development of key legal relationships for each service line
  • Directory submissions - ensure timely delivery of Chambers, Legal 500 and ILFR directory submissions including reviewing and monitoring results
  • Proactively assist partners and associates in the preparation of pitches and proposals
  • Identify opportunities for thought leadership, working in conjunction with the Luxembourg Partners, the Marketing team and Knowledge management (KM) team
  • Actively develop and mentor direct report. Set annual objectives and provide development framework and support for ongoing career progression, with training and knowledge sharing to enhance skills and expertise
  • Various ad hoc tasks as required which may include, for example, assisting with the Luxembourg aspects of the key account programme and the group training function as required with the development and delivery of BD training modules

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A relevant degree and/or qualification and previous experience in a BD focused role, you’ll be looking to create an impact, through clear communication and a focused approach
  • Experience in developing and implementing highly effective BD initiatives in the professional services industry
  • Ability to form and maintain highly effective working relationships with all levels of seniority from partner to secretary
  • Strong analytical skills
