Description:

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is housed in the Wilmington Unit and assists counselors and performs services for consumers in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick County.
The successful applicant assists in the placement of eligible consumers in competitive and compatible employment that is consistent with their interests and abilities. The incumbent works closely with counselors to determine appropriate vocational goals for consumers and identify the availability of similar positions in the community. Other duties include teaching employment marketing classes to job-ready consumers; providing written and verbal feedback to counselors regarding the progress of referred consumers’ efforts to obtain employment; coordinating in-school work adjustment programs; meeting with local and regional employers to explain agency mission and goals and to obtain their agreement and commitment to hire vocational rehabilitation (VR) consumers. The selected candidate will also participate in job fairs and other community events to promote the agency and its consumers as well as represent the work unit on boards/committees as designated by the Unit Manager.
The DHHS Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) promotes employment and independence for persons with disabilities through customer partnership and community leadership.

Bachelors degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution;
OR
Associate s degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience;
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
