What’s it like working as a Business Systems Analyst at Questrade?
At Questrade, we bring digital solutions into our investment needs. Our Business Systems Analysis team is the conduit between our Technology department and various lines of business, to build and improve our platforms.
The Business Systems Analyst gathers business requirements for the engineering team and communicates technical milestones for business stakeholders. This role requires a strong understanding of software development for trading systems. With knowledge from both technical and business perspective, the Business Systems Analyst would also be the Subject Matter Expert and Product Owner for Agile teams.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • You have worked in teams to develop software applications: desktop, web, and/or mobile
  • You enjoy solving business problems and recommend scalable solution
  • You understand how REST APIs and gRPC are used to build cloud-based applications, and know how to use Postman
  • You have invested in the stock market or cryptocurrency, and have your own rationale in deciding a good investment
  • You are always curious to learn and understand how applications work behind-the-scenes, always ask why, why not
  • You are a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • You want to make better Questrade products to use them yourself
  • You enjoy defining scope to bring ambiguous project into a reality
  • You understand the importance of mapping workflows into diagrams, and enjoy dealing with large data set in spreadsheets
  • You can convey importance of technical improvements to business stakeholders naturally, like fixing a production bug
  • You are a brilliant detective at troubleshooting issues on your product
  • You are excellent at time management and prioritization
  • You enjoy product ownership by understanding how it works from end-to-end, and knowing how consumers will use your product

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

  • 2+ years working as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or technical role within the financial services industry
  • Work experience or knowledge in investments industry: discount brokerage and wealth management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Business, and/or Finance with relevant work experience

Additional kudos if you…

  • Completed or pursuing Canadian Securities Course (CSC®), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO®), Certified Scrum Master (CSM®), Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP®) or equivalent
  • Closely worked with JIRA, Confluence, Gitlab or equivalent tools
  • Experience with MSSQL, Power BI or equivalent database tools
  • Knowledge in banking and/or cryptocurrency industry
  • Software development and/or entrepreneurial experience

Responsibilities:

  • Work with various business stakeholders to identify solutions, define requirements, determine feasibility, and plan timelines
  • Create and maintain product roadmaps for the applications within your portfolio, then ensure successful product delivery by proactively identifying risks and removing roadblocks
  • Work closely with engineering teams and designers to build and improve investment products
  • Elicit, define, analyze and document requirements for new/existing products, processes, and projects through their lifecycle, then ensure what is delivered meets the objectives
  • Think like the consumers and business owners to understand the business problems, and can breakdown the requirements into meaningful user stories for the engineering team
  • Exhibit confidence, apply critical thinking, like to innovate, and keep up with technology and competitor products and services to solving business problems for the organization
  • Provide solutions for new services and make recommendations to improve product quality, reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Have overall product ownership, prioritize tasks, and make strategic decisions
  • Help with testing of the functionality, security, and overall performance of the products
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements wherever appropriate
