Description:
An opportunity has become available at our Head Office (Cape Town) within Cape Union Mart for a Buyer for the Consumer Electronics Department.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 and diploma/degree in retail or relevant industry
- At least two years’ work experience as a fully-fledged retail buyer
- Working with OEM product (product development)
- Working with international brands (merchandise and marketing departments)
- Microsoft office package (PPT, EXCEL, Word and Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Understanding of the product life cycle of both OEM and external brands
- Relevant Industry/Product knowledge of Consumer Electronics
- Commercial acumen and ability to calculate margins, price targets and other key buying metrics on the fly
- Ability to travel locally and overseas
Responsibilities:
- Sourcing, development and updating of OEM products across power, lighting, wearables, and other electronic categories
- Range development and relationship management with external global brands
- Oversees all buying administration in the department
- Works closely with the planner on OTB control
- Prepare and present range reviews to management
- Ensuring images available for E-commerce
- Responsible for all marketing briefs and must ensure suitable/relevant products are presented
- Keeping abreast of local and global trends in the industry
- Liaise with suppliers and ensure on-time launches according to internal critical paths and market launches of new branded products
- Provide a good range of merchandise that meets our quality standards, consumer needs and product trends
- Ensure pricing of the products are competitive (OEM), in line with market (external brands) and within GP targets and the pricing policy.
- Ensure new and replenishment products are delivered timeously for the season.
- Report on major competitors once per season. Ensures that company benefits from cost saving strategies.
- Selecting and sourcing reliable suppliers
- Negotiating rebate schemes with external suppliers, and ensuring these are paid out timeously when conditions are met
- Minimise risk through monitoring high risk suppliers (late deliveries, reliability, quality) - Maintaining and improving supplier relationships and ensuring that suppliers understand and adhere to our terms.
- Follow up on orders to ensure on-time delivery
- Working with the relevant authorities to ensure products meet South African consumer standards and all import paperwork is up to date
- Ensure proper testing of OEM products before going to market
- Undertaking store visits and interacting with managers, staff and customers to gauge stores/customers’ needs/wants
- Co-ordination of training of store staff to ensure sell-through
- Keeping up to date on stock levels and customer profiles
