Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for ensuring efficient and cost-effective management of the procurement process for the manufacturing team. The successful candidate will cultivate and strengthen Loewen’s relationship with multiple suppliers while negotiating the best available pricing in the market. Sourcing suitable alternatives, inventory management, and purchase schedules will be major focuses in this role. This position is located at our manufacturing facility in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop business and operational partnerships with Loewen’s internal teams.
  • Collaborate with members of the procurement team to identify opportunities for bundled purchasing and process optimization.
  • Establish and nurture vendor relationships by optimizing sourcing techniques and proven negotiation skills.
  • Support the development of procurement strategies and ensure compliance with Loewen’s procurement policies.
  • Complete the comparative analysis of quotes, negotiate with shortlisted suppliers and present final recommendations to company leaders.
  • Ensure the application of quality standards and procedures.
  • Formulate recommendations to improve quality assurance procedures.
  • Inventory management including product turn, obsolescence, and department KPI’s.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THIS ROLE:

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of a computer and Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, and Outlook), with the ability to learn new software quickly and efficiently.
  • Must have good command of the English language and general knowledge of procurement concepts and general business terminology.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to assess data with detailed accuracy, in order to exercise good judgement and make decisive recommendations.
  • Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage competing tasks independently with a high level of initiative.
  • Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solutions and resolve challenges in a diplomatic, firm but tactful manner.
  • Works well in a team environment, excellent interpersonal skills combined with a positive professional attitude to provide and maintain excellent customer service.
  • University or college graduate in Supply Management would be considered an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ethical conduct is required to maintain internal and legislative compliance requirements.
