Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary objective of the Buying Executive role at Shoe City is to set the merchandise strategy for the business, ensuring alignment with Company objectives and market trends. This includes influencing and driving the seasonal product and purchasing strategy to meet the needs of our target customers while maximizing profitability.
Additionally, the Buying Executive is responsible for overseeing the execution of the merchandise strategy through effective leadership and management of the Footwear Buying Team. This involves guiding the team in selecting the right suppliers, products and ranges to deliver on the Company’s agreed value proposition and support marketing, sales, and in-store visual merchandising plans.
Ultimately, the Buying Executive plays a pivotal role in shaping the product offering of Shoe City, driving sales, and positioning Shoe City as a leader in the footwear retail industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Grade 12 Certificate/Matric is essential.
  • A relevant degree /qualification in Fashion, Textile Design, Product Development /Merchandising, or a related field is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of buying experience, plus a minimum of 5 years at a senior level within a footwear retail environment.
  • Previous senior managerial experience demonstrating an understanding of business strategies and philosophies.
  • Integral understanding of the Footwear Retail Cycle & Buying process.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic interventions in a rapidly changing global and local context.
  • Comprehensive knowledge/understanding of SA’s retail clothing/ footwear market, customers, and competitors.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to influence across various levels and functions within the business.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels.
  • Merchant skills and a sound commercial mentality.
  • Flair for product and building ranges to current trends

Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting seasonal fashion trends worldwide and adapting them to suit the preferences of Shoe City’s target customers.
  • Developing, influencing, and driving the Company’s seasonal product and purchasing strategy in alignment with Company objectives, including setting the merchandise strategy.
  • Effectively influencing the selection of merchandise to meet target customers’ needs in terms of price, quality, and fashionability.
  • Ensuring the selection and management of appropriate suppliers according to Company policies.
  • Managing the merchandise procurement process to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Maximizing sales through the selection of appropriate products to support marketing, sales, and in-store visual merchandising plans.
  • Achieving and exceeding the Company’s inflow margin and GP Rands as outlined in seasonal business plans.
  • Developing cross-functional partnerships with key departments.
  • Leading and developing the Buying Team through sound people management practices and fostering a culture of high performance.
