Description:
OVERVIEW
Reporting to the President, the Buyer is responsible for the procurement of Cannabis and Cannabis accessories to support sales growth and maximize profits
While maintaining a diverse product selection, the Buyer will place product orders based on sales, promotional activities and consumer trends, maintaining the targeted margin percentage and inventory levels.
The Buyer is responsible for core and niche product selection, inventory management, product development, and the analysis and communication of market trends, consumer trends, and company strategy.
The Buyer will partner with the Director, Sales and Store Operations by seeking out feedback and input from General Managers along with presenting regular updates, results and coaching on product knowledge and strategy in management meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in the legal Cannabis industry with in-depth product knowledge of cannabis strains, consumption methods and effects.
- Valid SIR and knowledge of regulatory and other compliance requirements for purchasing and selling retail Cannabis.
- Demonstrated strong negotiation skills with outside vendors
- Proficiency in Excel and data analysis
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to visit all store locations is mandatory
- Familiarity with Cova and Dutchie is an asset.Experience in procurement, supply chain management, or retail buying is an asset.
Responsibilities:
Product Procurement
The Buyer is accountable for all products that are in the store until it is purchased by a guest. The Buying Manager is responsible for establishing a core product assortment, all new listings, eliminating underperforming items and/or categories, and providing our guests and teams with a unique, seasonal and desirable assortment
Adding Inventory to POS
Support Store Managers in adding PO’s to POS, investigate discrepancies. Add invoices to BigChip for every added PO and/or transfers between stores (both Cannabis and Accessories).
Merchandising
The Buyer is responsible for partnering with President and Director, Sales and Store Operations on store planograms to maximize customer efficiency, experience, and service; maximize operational efficiency, shopability, and organization; and drive sales and productivity.
Responsible for merchandising and product selection/ordering/transfers for all new store openings.
Display merchandising: Work with the Director of Sales and Store Operations and General Managers to coordinate in-store displays and planograms based on sale opportunities, seasonal products, and products needing increased sales.
Data Analysis
The Buyer must understand and communicate product trends, consumer trends, the competitive landscape, historical data, and department history to maximize our wins and minimize our losses
Partnerships
The Buyer is responsible for building mutually beneficial, respectful, and professional relationships with LPs and sales representatives
Communication
The Buyer will partner with General Managers on a regular and ongoing basis, by gaining feedback , but, not limited to:
- New product performance
- Core Product performance
- Customer feedback
- Team Feedback
- Product Shortages
- Product Turnover
- Licenced Producer performance
The Buyer will consolidate feedback and partner with the Director, Sales and Store Operations in leveraging this information, as required, in developing new and existing tactics to support business performance.
The buyer will visit stores bi-monthly.
Inventory Management
The Buyer will manage store inventory through the analysis of product and/or category performance vs. budget, inventory levels relative to procurement strategy (Ex. Min/Max levels), sales performance and any relevant external factors (ex. New competition)
Product Pricing
The Buyer, in partnership with the President, sets pricing in order to demonstrate our value proposition to our guests while maximizing profitability. Product pricing will be reviewed, at minimum quarterly, and adjusted based on the price elasticity of demand, competitive analysis and wholesale cost.
