Description:

Nature of the Work:
The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists of assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, fieldwork and workshops.
Specifically, the employee supports the students who come to the Centre de langue écrite et orale (CLÉO).

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and supervision of the laboratory;
  • Monitor and provide appropriate assistance to students in French;
  • Interact with students and assist them with language difficulties as appropriate;
  • Assist teachers in the development of activities, workshops and projects related to CLEO;
  • Provide computer related assistance for language teaching;
  • Arrange student laboratory appointments;
  • Prepare the lab schedule;
  • Ensure that attendance system is ready for students;
  • Submit student attendance data to teachers;
  • Maintain equipment performing minor cleaning, repair and adjustments and/or placing service calls, as needed;
  • Maintain an inventory of resources and supplies;
  • Preparation of tapes and methods; digitize audio and video material;
  • Assist in the administration of Language Placement and other testing in CLEO;
  • Prepare students for the language exams of the Quebec Office of the French Language (OLF);
  • In close cooperation with IST, help identify computer updating needs;
  • Upload and test language computer programs;
  • Research available technologies and resources;
  • Perform other related duties.

Requirements :
Conditions:
To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced French language skills (written and spoken) (testing may be required)
  • Intermediate English language skills (spoken) (testing may be required)
  • Excellent knowledge of computer software for language instruction in French
  • Basic Word and Excel skills (testing may be required)
