Job Description
Support the North American R&D Center, by conducting Computer Aided Engineering simulations to assess component/BIW/Vehicle performance against regulatory and non-regulatory crash requirements. Suggest cost effective, weight optimized technical solutions to achieve structural requirements according to the needs of the customer. All aspects of CAE are required; such as meshing, joining, job submission, de-bugging and post processing. Present technical report, including conclusion and recommendations to the customer.
Build & conduct numerical validation of components, sub-assemblies and full vehicles in designated crash tests (i.e. USNCAP / IIHS).
Suggest technical solutions to improve product design, with focus on cost reduction, mass reduction and crash performance optimization.
Promote Gestamp innovative light-weighting solutions
Stay current by understanding emerging materials and advanced technologies.
Ensure client timing and performance criteria are met.
Interact with OEM, and present technical portions of the proposals/concepts.
Prepare technical reports, describing analysis and formulating conclusion and recommendations.
Participate in internal R&D activities (material laws, in-sheet failure, spot-weld failure, modeling techniques, innovative materials, etc.).
Train and support new R&D team in North America, the Gestamp CAE methodologies.
Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, focus on (structural mechanics, solid mech., and computational mech.)
Mechanical engineering, Finite Element Method (explicit, implicit), Failure
2-5 years’ experience in Automotive CAE engineering design analysis.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong working knowledge of material science (in particular, steel & aluminum)
First-hand experience in the automobile industry (R&D office / development center) highly recommended.
Ability to understand, interpret and act upon results from analysis to optimize component designs
Strong motivation to work on automotive projects
Software: Solvers: LS-DYNA, Hypercrash/Hyperview, NASTRAN
Pre-Post / Mesh: Beta (Metapost, ANSA), Ls-PrePost, HyperWorks, Visual Environment
Optimization: LS-OPT, Optistruct, MDO
CAD: Working knowledge of CATIA V5 and or NX would be a benefit
