Description:

The Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Sussex have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Associate Specialist Psychiatrist to join their Sussex-wide team. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral part in prioritising the delivery of a safe, effective and caring service to those young people (0rs-18yrs) with Mental Health Difficulties and their families/carers within Sussex.
You will provide high quality specialist clinical assessments, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigation to children, young people and their families in a range of settings, and work collaboratively with other members of the team to plan and deliver appropriate individually tailored treatment plans.
You will work as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, Clinical psychologists, OTs, systemic family therapists and child psychotherapists. This post will work alongside other Consultants and Specialty Doctors who work in Sussex ChYPS. You will also be part of a Trust wide consultant network where there are opportunities to liaise with colleagues in other posts throughout the Trust and develop peer networks. You will also see consultant peers at regular division meetings in the locality and at clinical governance meetings.

This post is based in the Brighton CAMHS team and has Named Doctor for Safeguarding responsibilities.

To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
To engage in medical appraisal and revalidation as set out in the Trust policy on this area.
To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval (if appropriate), and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with medical colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the Chief Medical Officer and other managers in preparing plans for services.
Recognises and takes responsibility for safeguarding children, young people and adults, using appropriate systems for identifying, sharing information, recording and raising concerns, obtaining advice and taking action.
Applies appropriate equality and diversity legislation, including disability discrimination requirements, in the context of patient care and maintains up to date knowledge regarding Equality and Diversity
Understanding and utilisation of the relevant legal framework provided e.g. MHA 1983 and the MCA 2005 is essential. A Specialist Grade postholder in psychiatry would need as a minimum to be section 12(2) MHA 1983 approved, if not have Approved Clinician (AC) status/approval and be on the AC register
