Description:

We are searching for an experienced Campus Safety Officer at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Campus Safety Officer performs a wide variety of service functions to support the safety and security of the College community and campus property. The Campus Safety Officer patrols assigned areas and responds to radio and/or phone calls for routine and/or emergency assistance in both criminal and non-criminal matters. Performs investigations and makes arrests when necessary. Deters and prevents unlawful behavior and performs internal and external public safety functions. Reports to work in the event of an emergency. This position reports directly to the Chief Safety & Security Officer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with using CCTV cameras and access card software is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with using computers, databases, and MS Office programs is necessary.
  • Basic math skills required for calculating property loss for incident reports.
  • Valid Security Guard permit issued by the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) is required prior to the start date.
  • Possession of a current PC 832 Certification/SB 1626 or must be willing to acquire certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Must take an 8-hour baton/pepper spray class prior to carrying such defense weapons.
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid and AED certification throughout duration of employment.
  • A Valid California Driver’s License is required.
  • Must have a reliable motor vehicle

PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

  • Some college coursework or technical training preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas and perform security checks as allotted. Maintain security of buildings and College related property by controlling access. Opening and securing of buildings in accordance with departmental procedures or as directed. Operate and/or monitor electronic door access via closed-circuit systems and other security related devices.
  • Respond to phone and/or radio calls for routine and emergency assistance in both criminal and non-criminal situations. Assess circumstances and conditions at the scene of an incident and determine the appropriate response. Make urgent calls to local law enforcement agencies as needed. Assess the severity of medical emergencies, summon medical assistance as required (e.g., paramedics, fire department) and may transport non-life-threatening sick and injured patients.
  • Maintain perimeter and crowd control in areas of crimes, emergencies, and special events.
  • Escort students, staff, faculty, and/or visitors between College buildings and their vehicles.
  • Assist with parking control and vehicle/pedestrian security. Direct traffic and give directions. Issue citations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities including duty times, incidents, actions taken, observations made, and other relevant information. Prepare comprehensive incident and crime reports as required. Ensure reports are legally suffice through consultation with supervisor.
  • Assist with planning and conducting crime prevention awareness programs and other public information campaigns on such topics as personal safety, theft, emergency response, and loss prevention.
  • Enforce OSHA and CAL-OSHA regulations and college policies relating to safety, health, and fire prevention. Reports hazardous, unsafe or irregular conditions, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and mandatory reporter under the Clery Act. Receives reports of crimes or criminal incidents. Notifies supervisor of any reports that indicate the presence of an ongoing threat to the College community.
  • Carry non-lethal weapons (e.g., baton, aerosol projector, handcuffs,) make arrests when necessary and in accordance with established departmental training and procedures and in compliance with state law enforcement rules and requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
