Description:

The Capacity Manager has a day to day operational role in providing leadership and responsibility for the safe facilitation of patient flow pathways across the hospital all Medical and Surgical divisions. The post holder will work within their remit to ensure a seamless patient journey enabling the Trust to meet key strategic and operational objectives.
The Capacity Manager will work in collaboration with medical/surgical teams and specialty managers in forecasting admissions ahead of schedule and also respond to emergency care pathways on the day, this includes Urgent and Emergency Care and Family Integrated Support Services (FISS).
The Capacity Manager has day to day operational responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of all aspects of capacity management within their remit whilst playing a pivotal role in managing the Patient Flow Coordinator colleagues on duty and supporting the Site Senior Manager to deliver local and national standards.
The post supports all staff, working in and out of hours to ensure the safe and effective use of resources to provide quality patient care. The role works autonomously, with the support of the Site Senior Manager on duty to ensure timely escalation and action on all issues and provide maintenance of acute services.
The Capacity Manager has a key role in maintaining the ED target of 95% of patients being seen and treated, admitted or discharged within 4 hours by focussing on patient pathway delay, intervene and escalate where necessary to maintain patient safety, care, quality and patency of patient pathways.
Intervention may include actions to prevent delays, for example chasing results, transport and discharge outcomes. The post-holder may be required to assess the patient’s wellbeing using acquired experience and clinical knowledge and work closely with clinicians, ward teams and Divisional Teams in order to get the best outcome for patients in complex situations.
The Capacity Manager has expert knowledge of patient pathways within the NHS, they support and deputise for the Site Senior Manager. Working closely with senior nursing and management teams in ensuring that targets are met, escalating when required.
Working corporately across all Divisions, the Capacity Managers will ensure that all suitable capacity across the site is utilised appropriately, to maintain and maximise flow and safety which includes Infection Prevention and Control measures in place due to Covid and other Hospital Acquired Infections requiring isolation measures which have a significant impact on flows.
