Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Financial Accounts team for a full time Band 7 Capital Accountant role.
We are seeking individual who is self-motivated, pro-active and with excellent planning and organisational skills. The post holder is required to
have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of all capital accounting records to ensure the accurate recording of capital allocations, commitment and expenditure, maintain all fixed asset accounting records, manage capital plan and tracking capital spend against plan.
The job holder will also be responsible for calculating capital charge estimates, assist and support the Financial Accountant in maintaining the financial ledger and preparation of the annual statutory accounts of the Trust.

primary, community, mental health and acute healthcare services.
Capital Accounting
Contribute to drawing up initial capital programmes, including bid lists for the Trust Capital Investment Group (CIG) ensuring that all areas of capital accounting are maintained, in balance and reflect the Trust’s overall capital position.
Managing the capital plan and tracking capital spend against plan.
Responsible for the production of monthly reports to contribute to the decision-making concerning capital expenditure of the Trust.
Provide advice and support to project directors and managers.
Ensure variances are identified, discussed and recommendations for action given and monitored with appropriate managers and other accountants.
Preparation of reports to the Executive and the Board.
Maintain cashflow projections as part of the Trust’s annual rolling forecast.
To ensure that all VAT is correctly accounted for and to ensure that correct recovery is made via HM Revenue and Customs.
Fixed Asset Accounting
Maintain accounting records to show the true value of the Trust’s assets and update these on a regular basis for additions and deprecations thereby ensuring that fixed assets are correctly valued and accounted for in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS.
Liaise with other Trust managers/departments in particular Estates (Capital Projects) and Procurement to account for additions to assets and to ensure that asset additions are correctly accounted for in the right period and thereby allowing accuracy of capital charges and depreciation.
Provide detailed information to the Head of Treasury and Financial Accounts for evaluation of business plans.
To be responsible for ensuring the fixed asset register and accounts are in agreement and taking the action necessary to ensure that the accounts represent the correct value of Trust assets.
Maintain revaluation reserves and ensure this is correctly identified to individual assets to comply with accounting standards.
Maintain a register of leased assets ensuring that it is complete and that the accounting treatment complies with IFRS 16.
Capital Charges
To be responsible for the calculations of actual and forecast capital charges ensuring depreciation is accurately forecasted and reflected in process, planning assumptions and financial monitoring returns to NHSE.
Completion of annual figures for the Management Executive.
To ensure periodic revaluations are correctly accounted for.
To provide forecast capital charges to support the consolidation programme.
Assets under Construction
To be responsible for the correct accounting of assets under construction (AuC) and to ensure that the accounting aspects of assets under construction are accurately reported and incorporated within the Trust’s financial ledger and accounts.
Ensure a monthly and quarterly reporting system is in operation.
Other
Assist in the preparation of annual statutory accounts to ensure that timetables and deadlines are met.
To ensure agreed recommendations arising from audit reports are implemented to highest standards of probity, compliance and professionalism.
Contribute to the production of the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions, Financial Procedures and Standing Orders and ensure they are complied with thereby allowing any changes to further legislation to be maintained and reflected in the day to day transactions and controls of the organisation.
Any other appropriate duties as delegated by the Head of Treasury & Financial Accounts to ensure continuity of work
