Role Purpose:
The Capital Management Actuary is a key member of the Financial Performance team at Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Performance and will work closely with Actuarial, Risk & the wider business. This individual will provide Capital & Liquidity information and advice to support management decisions, involving planning, sensitivities, solvency monitoring and other financial reporting and analysis.

The Capital Management Actuary will:

  • Play a key role in generating SCR (Solvency Capital Requirement) projections for our business planning. Review and analyse new & emerging economic capital methodologies and industry practices for the Retirement, Savings & Investment business.
  • Develop what-if planning tools that can be used to determine the actions to optimise economic and Solvency II regulatory capital requirement through product design, investment strategy, use of third party capital consistent with Aviva’s risk appetite.
  • Help to grow the business by ensuring that our strategy optimises our capital usage as well as focuses on realisation of value from our back book and New Business growth
  • Lead oversight and engagement over third party providers of hedging, ALM & SAA services
  • Provide support and technical advice to the CFO, Head of Performance and wider business e.g. risk margin and expense assumptions setting process.
  • Lead capital management and investment initiatives, including ALM/capital & investment optimisation, portfolio optimisation and capital structuring.
  • Liaise with the proposition teams to pro-actively ensure that new investment & pricing strategies are capital efficient
  • Promote a robust risk and controls environment with emphasis on strong documentation and risk management.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Actuary and member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland or similar international body.

Skills and Experience

  • Detailed understanding of the life insurance industry, including financial regulation.
  • Technical experience of capital model design, build, parameterisation, documentation and production of capital metrics. Ability to interpret data and establish alternatives and solutions to complex problems.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical actuarial and accounting information in a non-technical manner.
  • Ability to build relationships and interact effectively at all levels.
  • Market and commercial knowledge. Understand the needs of our end customers.
  • A detailed knowledge of relevant statutory, legal and regulatory frameworks and corporate governance.
  • Good people management, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience with capital modelling software (e.g. Tyche etc.)
