Key Accountabilities include (Not limited to):

  • Provide clinical service within the scope of practice as granted by the MUH Medical Advisory Committee.
  • Participate in and fulfil the duties and responsibilities as set out in the rotation description provided for the term of the position.
  • Provide clinical management and timely treatment of patients (both inpatient and outpatient) delegated by the clinical supervisor(s) and the care of colleagues within the discipline.
  • Liaise with and support other Cardiology Advanced Trainees who are on rotation.
  • Supervise and commit to maintain accurate documentation and completion of electronic medical records in a timely manner to reflect clinical decisions, tests, procedures and discharge diagnoses and instructions.
  • Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
  • Provide multidisciplinary clinical supervision, training and education in patient care environments including for nursing, allied health, junior medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia
  • Completed Basic Physician Training
  • Successful completion (or working towards) of FRACP written and clinical examinations.
  • Active (or eligible to be an active) Accredited Practitioner of Macquarie University Hospital.
  • Proven commitment to education and research.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including patients and other health professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

    The Role
    MQ Health is seeking a part time [0.5 FTE] Unaccredited Cardiology Advanced Trainee to provide clinical services to Cardiology patients at MQ Health and to contribute to the development of MQ Health’s Cardiology service.
    This part-time position will work to a one week on, one week off work schedule, and will have the opportunity to experience Cardiology in a private hospital and outpatient clinic environment.
    The successful candidate will also be mentored and work alongside senior Cardiologists and other specialists, be exposed to a wide range of Cardiology cases, supervise and train students, residents and other Doctors in Training, as well as contribute to educational and research activities within MQ Health including opportunities for a conjoint academic appointment.

    Our integrated approach is designed to deliver holistic patient care and treatment informed directly by the latest research and continuous learning for improved patient outcomes, enhanced student experiences and impactful health and medical research.
    MQ Health’s Department of Cardiology offers inpatient and outpatient services, providing highly specialised care in the areas of Interventional Cardiology, Structural Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiac Imaging, as well as excellent general Cardiology care. The site is accredited for core advanced training for six months full-time through the Nepean Hospital Cardiology Advanced Training network. The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in local and Network educational activities and teaching (including Nepean Hospital departmental meetings).
    The successful applicant will obtain 12 months experience in all areas of Cardiology, and an expectation to be involved with research projects and trials that undertaken at MQ Health (or show evidence of research activities with another supervisor at an alternative institution).
    Macquarie University Hospital is unique in that it boasts a co-located University with an established medical program. An academic title is granted to the successful candidate (on application to the University), with an expectation that the successful candidate will engage in medical student supervision and teaching.
    About You
    You will be an aspiring Cardiologist who is committed to clinical care, education, and research. You will be keen to work in an innovative multidisciplinary environment and be passionate about providing patient centre care. You will have experience working within busy inpatient settings while balancing supervision, teaching and mentoring of junior staff and medical students.
