Description:

Ward G3 is a 28 bedded stroke unit, with 14 hyper acute and 14 acute stroke beds. We take patients from across the 3 counties and provide specialist stroke care, including thrombolysis.
As a Care Assistant on our ward, you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide expert care to the patients.
There is the opportunity for further development through the Care Certificate and our in-house rehabilitation pathway.
This vacancy is linked to a level 2 apprenticeship. This will support you to gain relevant knowledge, skills and experience that will help you achieve your potential in this role. Working alongside the Trust’s experienced staff you will be supported to gain the apprenticeship qualification and functional skills in maths and English if required. This is a great opportunity to gain a national recognised qualification while you are working and earning, which will support you in both this role and in your future career at Frimley Health.
You will not be required to undertake an apprenticeship if you have previously completed a relevant apprenticeship, NVQ or similar qualification.
To work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide safe and effective care to all patients.
The role involves personal care of the patient, and aiding them in their activities of daily living.
Accurate and timely documentation is imperative to the effectiveness of our service.
Effective communication with patients and relatives, including those that have communication difficulties.

Clinical
Participate in the nursing care of patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, and raise issues of concern to a qualified nurse.
Assist the Ward House Keepers in keeping the unit environment clean and tidy.
Assist patients with their nutritional requirements, which includes ensuring menus are completed, handing out drinks & food to patients (ensuring they can reach everything they need, and are sat in a good eating position), and where appropriate feed patients.
Always maintain respect and confidentiality.
Maintain clear and accurate documentation under the supervision of a registered nurse, raising issues of concern with a qualified nurse where appropriate.
Communicate effectively and liaise with all health care staff as appropriate.
To encourage and maintain good relationship with Medical Staff and other members of the Primary care & Social Services teams in order to provide the best care.
To participate in quality Assurance initiatives within the unit.

Non-clinical duties
Know where and how to access all policies and procedures and adhere to them.
Participate in maintaining appropriate levels of stock under the guidance of a registered nurse.
Participate in the induction of bank/agency Health Care Assistants and new staff to the unit.
Ensure adequate supply of equipment, linen and anything else which is required by the Nurse in charge of the shift.
Personal development
Attend annual mandatory training, which includes basic life support and moving and handling.
Undertake Trust HCA programme and competencies
