Looking for a new challenge working in mental health care? Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust (NHFT) has a vacancy for one Band 4 Carer Champion across the Older Adult Inpatient Wards at Berrywood Hospital, Northampton, working closely with Northamptonshire Carers Association as a new joint development. This is a new exciting and innovating role that promotes carer involvement and support to carers.
We are looking for a self-motivated, resourceful and skilled individual with a person-centred approach to supporting carers. Excellent communication and listening skills are imperative as is the ability to work proactively on your own initiative. Confidence and ability to work well within a team is also important as you will be working alongside varied professionals. The role will involve supporting carers and at times this will include sensitive conversations that require empathy and understanding.

You will be at the forefront of shaping carers support, linking carers with external services or support networks and supporting in the setting up and running of carer support groups on the wards. You will also be responsible for sharing carers’ views and questions during ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings and feeding information back to carers. This role is crucial in ensuring carers feel listened to, supported and advocating on their behalf.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with warmth, empathy and compassion to both patients and their carers. If you would like to make a difference in supporting carers and become a leader in shaping how that support and care looks for those caring for vulnerable people then this role will be for you!
NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire
