Description:
REPORTS TO: Community Connections Manager
HOURLY WAGE: $26.75/hour
HOURS: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Sunday to Thursday (1 year contract)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with Indigenous people and individuals from diverse cultures.
- Must have a class 5 drivers license, ability to provide a clean drivers abstract, and access to a reliable personal vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance to use for work purposes.
- Background in community development, social work, occupational therapy or another related field.
- Education: Degree or equivalent. Candidates without a Degree but who have post-secondary education and relevant and related experience will also be considered.
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
- Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with community members, identifying strengths and working in a respectful way with a community that has faced trauma and social exclusion.
- Offer access to information, support and connections to services within Boyle Street and external agencies.
- Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required: sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning/clearing tables, washing dishes, etc.
- Maintain a relationship with all partners of Boyle Street (Interfaith Communities, Edmonton Police Services, EMS, etc.)
- Facilitate case management within all community spaces for individuals who need support connecting to resources such as income support, ID, housing, medical etc
- Assist community members in crisis and find positive resolutions.
- Work well within a team and rotate job stations.
- Greet community members and lead the effort to develop a warm, friendly, and inviting environment through community engagement, identifying and addressing their immediate needs, and supporting them through referrals.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
- All other duties as outlined by program manager.
