Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Foster Youth Initiative (FYI) Case Manager will supervise the program’s execution in adherence to contract guidelines, resource navigation and thorough case management services to individuals aged 18-25 in DCYF Region 1. Their responsibilities include actively engaging with young adults to foster skill development for self-sufficiency and the primary goal of attaining stable housing. Oversight for this role is within the purview of Youth and Young Adult Services Program. This role involves up to 50% of travel within DCYF Region 1.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting, keyboard fingering, and performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking and hearing on a regular basis to perform the job requirement. These physical demands are required up to 90% of the time.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Education, or related field

EXPERIENCE

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience working with Young adults preferred

  • Understanding and ability to work with youth in and alumni of the foster care system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organizational ability with an attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and provide structured guidance and follow through to help youth reach long-term goals
  • Conflict resolution and group facilitation skills
  • Interest in working both individually and as part of a larger team serving the same population
  • Basic computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and automated database
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and comply with the contractual stipulations outlined by DCYF for delivering housing assistance and continuous case management services to eligible youth aged 18 to 25.
  • Offer developmentally appropriate opportunities for young adults to participate in skill development in areas such as employment, housing, money management, permanency, and education.
  • Recruit and maintain program participants through continuous and innovative relationship building efforts ensuring regular engagement to support participants in achieving their goals.
  • Manage a caseload of program participants utilizing diverse techniques, including Motivational Interviewing, to foster engagement across a wide geographic area.
  • Participate in targeted outreach and recruitment endeavors aimed at social workers, caregivers, community service providers, housing authorities, landlords, and young adults to increase awareness of FYI.
  • Employ a diverse range of strategies to effectively engage and assist young adults in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with their landlords.
  • Monitor and adjust participant progress through intake assessments and quarterly documentation.
  • Design, develop, and lead community presentations or training sessions centered on the FYI program.
  • Facilitate service coordination with Housing Authorities as part of the Youth and Young Adult Services program across DCYF Region 1, encompassing Adams, Lincoln, Spokane, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Whitman, Garfield, and Asotin counties.
  • Cultivate and sustain collaborative partnerships with fellow community service providers.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of client activities in their records and ensure accurate reporting in compliance with agency and contract protocols.
  • Attend weekly YYAS meetings and all obligatory assemblies within YYAS and Region 1.
  • Participate in specialized training and supervision sessions aligned with the role to advance professional growth, establish and oversee professional objectives, and monitor performance metrics.
  • Readiness to travel to remote service locations within the designated counties using agency vehicles.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed to accommodate client requirements, including occasional evening commitments or travel outside the local area.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as delegated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
