Casual Receptionist
Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is seeking a Receptionist to join our team on a casual, on-call basis. Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Services, the Casual Receptionist is responsible for operating the switchboard, providing reception to the public and providing administrative support for multiple departments.
General duties include receiving and redirecting incoming telephone calls, mail, faxes, front counter inquiries; receiving and processing financial transitions; collecting payments for property taxes, fees, licenses, etc. and completing daily cash balancing.
Essential Competencies
Applicants must have Grade 12 (or equivalent) supplemented by basic accounting studies at a business school or college or be able to demonstrate an acceptable combination of training, education and experience.
Applicants must have a high level of proficiency with the productivity applications: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the internet. Other requirements include accurate numeracy and cash-handling skills; the ability to process financial transactions accurately and efficiently; demonstrate excellent communication skills while exhibiting tact and diplomacy; offer excellent customer service while working in a team-oriented environment; multi-task and prioritize a varying workload with shifting priorities; and have knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
Preferred Competencies
This position may perform relief duties at the Administrative Assistant level and it is preferred that applicants have completed an Administrative Assistant Certificate program at a business school or college (or equivalent training); a minimum of 2 years’ experience providing support in an Administrative Assistant capacity; or be able to demonstrate an acceptable combination of knowledge, skills and progressively responsible experience.
Knowledge of municipal government operations, purchasing, property tax, bylaws and business licensing is desirable.
Working Conditions
This is a casual, unionized position within the BCGEU. The wage is set at Grid Level 4, $26.56 - $29.51 per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. There will be no guaranteed hours. The District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of B.C.
