Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Cat Scan Technician performs various tasks in the Cat Scan Dept in order to organize and expedite the workflow and throughput of patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School or GED
  • Completion of an approved Radiology Technology program that meets the requirements set by the ARRT and the NJ State DEP

Preferred:

  • At least one year of CT experience

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift working: 4 10’s (11pm-9am, or similar)
  • Monday-Friday and alternate weekend shifts
  • Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Screen patient for proper diet preparation and for possible allergy to contrast materials
  • Consult with supervisor, radiologist and physician as needed
  • Reschedule patient or delay procedure if conditions are not favorable
  • Explain procedure to patient
  • Prepare equipment and supplies as needed for each study
  • Check/test calibrating equipment and recalibrate as necessary
  • Position patient by attaching or adjusting immobilize supportive and proper shielding devices to obtain the precise patient position thus prevent patient from moving thus minimizing discomfort and project unaffected parts of body from unnecessary exposure of x-rays
  • Adjust and operate computerized tomographic equipment to skin designated anatomical area and set computer controls and matrix camera to produce satisfactory permanent images
  • Review and calculate completed test for quality, completeness and type of test ordered
  • Ensure quality images
  • Monitor patient condition during and after scan to ensure patient safety and comfort is met
  • Record all required information
  • Mark and label X-ray film in sequence and with patient identification or other information required by radiologist to make an accurate Diagnosis
  • Develop film or deliver it to dark Room attendant for processing
  • Deliver film to radiologist for reading and interpretation
  • In addition may perform duties of radiologic technology is as needed
  • Maintain establish departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control
  • Provide accurate information concerning CAT policies and procedures to patients, hospital personnel, and medical staff as required
