Description:

Ballard’s Modeling Team has a full-time position for a CFD Analysis Engineer to work in Product Development. This position will mainly focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis to support and validate critical fuel cell stack and system designs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A MSc. degree in Applied Science or Engineering with at least 5-7 years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer and electrical processes and their governing equations.
  • Electrochemistry knowledge is not required, but it is considered an important asset.
  • Combustion CFD experience is not required, but it is considered an important asset.
  • Very familiar with CFD/CAD/meshing tools such Ansys Fluent, SpaceClaim, COMSOL, CREO and Hypermesh is preferred
  • Knowledge/experience with computer programming languages such as Matlab, C, C++, Python, Fortran.
  • Experience with testing methods, measurement tools and model validation studies is preferred.
  • Very good capability using analysis tools for design activities.
  • Comfortable with drawings and design standards.
  • Capability and some experience with analytical and numerical mathematical methods for solving differential equations (ordinary and partial).

Responsibilities:

  • Use CFD tools to evaluate fuel cell stack and system designs to meet fluid flow, thermal and electrical requirements.
  • Develop, validate and maintain specific CFD simulation models in support of the fuel cell design process.
  • Provide critical technical input for design reviews during the development phase (Fuel Cell Stack and Fuel Cell Systems) using modeling results and engineering analysis.
  • Provide Product Development engineers with ability to leverage modeling tools to advance their designs with considerations for alternative design solutions.
  • Use CFD analysis methods to support fuel cell stack design verification process.
  • Evaluate tolerance ranges and design limits as part of the analysis to provide design trade offs to optimize design.
  • Collaborate with engineers to agree on CFD analysis scope of work, plan effectively and execute to agreed plan.
