Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work within the outpatient setting on Medical Day unit currently based at CGH.
MDU is an out-patient department which deals with various intravenous infusions, diagnostic endocrine tests, and blood transfusions.
We are looking to recruit a sister/Charge Nurse to work 37.5 hours a week. The hours are currently 08.00- 16.00 hrs Monday to Saturday, but these are currently being reviewed and may be changed

In line with the Trust Vision to provide the “Best Care for Everyone…” the successful applicant will be expected to lead the team with the support of their Band 7 and other Band 6 colleagues to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care. Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well a passion for improvement. You will need to be calm and resilient with the ability to deal with challenging situations, providing support to more junior members of the team. To lead in the delivery and supervision of patient care for the clinical area ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of core nursing care.
Applicants must demonstrate a compliance with professional values in line with the NMC Code and act as an appropriate role model at all times. As well as being able to take charge of a busy and dynamic department the successful applicant will also have excellent clinical skills and be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to development and education, always seeking to provide evidence-based person-centred care in line with both national and local guidelines.

Medical day unit service is a Nurse Lead Unit provided with 12 chair capacity in Cheltenham general hospital and we’re one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. We are excited to advertise for a Band 6 sister/ charge nurse post with permanent contract. The successful candidate will receive support and guidance from manager, sisters, MDU nurses and Matron.

Medical Day Unit Service
The Matron for Medical Day Unit is Vinod Mani. Unit Manager is Bijimol Joseph, The General Manager is Adele Pugh and Jo Knick Enberg is the Assistant General Manager.
The Medical Day Unit is part of the Medical Division. The Chief of Service is Dr Abigail Tomlins, Sue Macklin is the Interim Divisional Director of Quality & Nursing and Victoria Millward is the interim Divisional Director of Operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with appropriate teaching/assessing qualification. With a minimum of one year post registration experience. Applicants should have a good knowledge base and practice clinical skills to a high standard having the knowledge base necessary to support more junior colleagues.
Minimum evidence of post registration qualification/equivalent in medicine
Enhanced IT skills.
Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills.
Act as a role model and resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge
To participate in own and team’s personal and professional development. Ensuring progression through Individual Performance Development review and Revalidation process.
Demonstrate understanding of research and evidence-based practice, and participate as required in audit.
Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge/experience of speciality
Demonstrates leadership skills
