Reporting to the Manager, Contact Engineering, you will provide continuous onsite technical support and input to operations, sustaining projects, major projects, and technology development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five or more years of experience in an operating plant
  • Prior experience facilitating risk assessment, and hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) is an asset
  • Bachelor degree in Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Responsibilities:

  • Support expense projects and process changes, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide support to ensure that operational targets are met, required corrective actions are communicated and perform effective follow ups
  • Perform technical investigations and root cause analysis and provide technical feedback and recommendations to return the plant to normal operation after upsets
  • Perform required studies, problem definitions, and calculations for plant optimization
  • Develop tools to improve both process and equipment monitoring and performance projection
  • Perform calculations to identify required process conditions, production loss, emission spills and required chemicals
  • Compare existing plant operating conditions against design conditions
  • Provide technical support for tasks such as: regulatory reporting, operational procedure reviews, management of change (MOC) execution, risk reviews, bottleneck identification and plant turnarounds
  • Support continuous improvement efforts through stewardship of the MOC process among the Contact Engineering group.
  • Handle development and maintenance of living process engineering documents and tools such as; piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), specs and targets, safe operating limits, and heat and material balance

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our East Tank Farm in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
