We are looking for a Chemical Engineer for our Caledon, Ontario office!
Job Summary: Assists the chemical team in maintaining chemical inventory to sustain production volumes, including making and testing chemical blends. In addition, this person will assist in handling and disposing hazardous chemical waste, as well as testing incoming raw materials and post cure foam sample analysis. He/she will also assist in additional trials and R&D tests.
Depending on performance, the graduate chemical engineer will also be required to travel to other sites to support and aid other production lines.
Responsibilities:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent desired with an emphasis in chemical, polymer science, engineering or related technical field.
  • 0 to 4 years’ experience with products and processes in a manufacturing environment with chemical processing an advantage.
  • Experience with SPC, 6 sigma or other analysis software desirable.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with MS Macros, Visual Basic and other programming languages an asset.

  • Must be self-motivated, independent, and adaptable.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Strong written communication (grammer and spelling) skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Travel is involved for training and the job, so candidate must possess a valid passport and full clean driver’s license.
  • Must have the desire to strive for continuous improvement and excellence within a fast-paced growth environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in maintaining inventory of chemical components necessary for daily production demands. This includes ordering, transferring/offloading and delivering chemicals to production lines.
  • Coordinates with production department on chemical inventory and orders needed consumables.
  • Tests incoming chemicals & post cure samples for quality as per divisional SOPs and files test results and chemical delivery records.
  • Prepares and tests blends following divisional guidelines and report any inconsistencies to chemical team. Ensure proper record keeping on reports are done on all tests.
  • Uses forklift to transfer totes, pallets, or drums to line to supply or replenish material.
  • Assists production line on chemical & process equipment related issues.
  • Handles hazardous chemicals and wastes in compliance with environmental guidelines.
  • Assumes duties and responsibilities of Chemical Engineer in his/her absence. Includes, supervising mold area and enforcing SOPs, and PMs.
  • Duties can also include physical testing of samples, chemicals trials, calibration of pumps & other equipment, incoming chemical checks, inspecting filters, and other lab related activities.
  • Carry out lab technician training, maintain detailed records, and ensure follow up & refresher training takes place as required.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Responsible for housekeeping of the lab as well as other designated chemical areas in the Plant.
  • Provide chemical process support in multiple areas in a manufacturing environment (travel is required across different sites and states).
