Job Description:
The Role:
Our site in Toronto is seeking a Chemical Process Scientist to join our new product development team. In this critical role, the Process Chemist is a key player on a dynamic team responsible for scaling up robust chemical processes in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, continuous improvement environment focused on safety and quality.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as a core team member for assigned NPI Projects and act as the liaison between Development, Engineering and Operations in order to pull products to market through a stage gate process
- Work with Research and Development chemists to develop robust processes which incorporate standard unit operations, to meet stringent safety and quality requirements
- Apply your demonstrated laboratory experience in a pilot plant environment
- Define unit operations, generate process flow diagrams, and mass and energy balances
- Support operations by making decisions in the plant according to real time data to ensure the process is performing as expected, perform troubleshooting, and develop corrective actions
- Manage change through cross-functional partnering in a global environment
- Assist with analyses and audit processes to make recommendations on such items as safety, quality, cost, waste reductions, and efficiency
- Perform other duties as assigned and be available occasionally for off-hour work and assignments
What We Seek:
- Ph.D. in organometallic/main-group/organic chemistry or related discipline required
- Comfort and familiarity with handling air-sensitive materials
- Significant experience interpreting analytical results, such as NMR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, etc
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to author standard operating procedures, deliver technical presentations in support of product proposals and champion design reviews
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Motivated and self-directed team player with good interpersonal skills. Must have ability to reach out, communicate and influence personnel at all levels within the organization.
Outstanding Candidates Will Have:
- Ph.D. in organometallic/main-group/organic chemistry with 5+ years of industry experience
- Experience utilizing ERP systems (ideally SAP) in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with SPC, ISO quality standards, management-of-change for product/process control, and chemical compatibility studies
- Experience with design of experiment (DOE) statistical methods and tools;
