Description:

The City of Medicine Hat is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Chief Electoral Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the electoral process within the city, ensuring fair and transparent elections that uphold the principles of democracy. As a key leader, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders to promote voter engagement and uphold the integrity of the electoral system. This is a temporary position for 15 months beginning in September 2024.

VOTER EDUCATION AND OUTREACH:

  • Develop and implement initiatives to educate and engage voters, including public information campaigns, outreach events, and educational resources.
  • Work closely with community organizations, schools, and media outlets to promote voter participation and awareness of electoral rights and responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, law, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in election administration, electoral law, or related fields, with a proven track record of leadership and achievement.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal electoral principles, procedures, and best practices, with a commitment to democratic values and principles.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage complex processes and multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate constructive dialogue.
  • High level of integrity, impartiality, and professionalism in conducting electoral duties, with a commitment to transparency and accountability.
  • Familiarity with electoral technology and software systems, such as voter registration databases and electronic voting machines, is an asset.
