JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Chief Engineer (Manager M level) for the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Crew Seat Assembly (CSA) program. This position will build the engineering team and be located in Bengaluru, India, and will also be responsible for supporting work statement being performed by the Boeing Space Exploration Systems (BES) organization in the United States. This is an exciting development program with a new customer and will help secure Boeing’s presence and reputation in India.
This position is a Long-Term Assignment in Bengaluru, India for 36 months. Relocation/assignment benefits to the international location will be provided.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering field
Strong technical expertise in the area of Systems Engineering and Integration, Production engineering, structures, and test would be plusses.
10+ years of engineering experience
5+ years of experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.)
1+ years of experience with Risk, Issue and Opportunity Management .
1+ years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to meet aggressive schedules .
1+ years of experience in preparing and giving presentations and discussing the essential elements of a technology in front of other architects, managers, and/or executives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

1+ years of experience do you have in space systems development
Experience on the CST-100 Starliner program is a plus
1+ years of experience in the human space flight environment .
Engineering management prior experience, including senior management (L or M level).
Experience using Program Management Best Practices is a plus.
The candidate must be willing and able to commit to living in Bengaluru for a period of time up to three years.

Responsibilities:

This Chief Engineer position is responsible for leading all technical aspects of the Crew Seat Assembly program for the ISRO customer. This is an exciting program that will result in the design, analysis, qualification testing, and delivery of the CSA for the Gaganyaan space vehicle. Approximately 80% of the team will reside in India and the remainder will leverage the historical space knowledge of the BES team from the US.
The Chief Engineer will build the India team and coordinate closely with the US-based team to ensure successful execution of the program, including all engineering deliverables and meeting program safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives.
The successful candidate will work closely with the ISRO to develop technical relationships leading to additional partnership opportunities in alignment with the BGS Geo Diversity initiative.
This position will coordinate with other functions, suppliers, customers, and Boeing entities in India (Boeing Defence India, Boeing India Engineering and Technology Centre) to help ensure all program objectives are met and customer satisfaction is achieved.
As the successful candidate will possess a deep space background and commensurate experience, it is expected that this position will coach, mentor, and develop the India engineering team to not only be successful in this program but to be set up to tackle any subsequent space programs. In addition, this position will also develop the India-based Deputy Chief Engineer to gain the experience to assume the Chief Engineer role after this position repatriates back to the United States.
The successful candidate will apply design practices, lessons learned, and replicate designs such as the crew seating for CST-100 Starliner to ensure the best, low risk design which is safe and meets program requirements.
This position will coordinate with test facilities to help ensure the design, planning, execution, and completion of functional and structural tests for the CSA are successfully met.
While Boeing Internal Control Plans (ICP) are already in place for US trade authorization, continued coordination with the Global Trade Controls organization to ensure adherence to ITAR regulations.
This position will be assigned (hard-lined) to the Vice President and Chief Engineer of the BGS Global Engineering & Operations organization, and will be accountable (dash-lined) to the Vice President and Chief Engineer of Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC).
There will be required travel back to the US based on required needs.
