  • National leadership across the community-managed mental health sector
  • Champion the sector’s ability to deliver recovery-oriented mental health services.
  • Spearhead strategic delivery of effective advocacy, influence and campaigning

The CEO Role
As CEO, you will facilitate effective links between government, community managed / non-government and private sector stakeholders to influence public mental health policy development and reform.

The focus of role responsibilities includes:

  • Working closely with the Board to set strategy and vision with clarity and confidence enabling CMHA to continually adapt to external market forces
  • Ensure the organisation structure and culture is positioned to enable the mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented to relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain financial oversight over the organisation, ensuring CMHA gains full access to available grants and other financial support
  • Lead policy and program development, working with all stakeholders, to build the capacity and ability of members to support people on their recovery journeys
  • Represent members to government and other bodies ensuring effective, quality advocacy
  • Resource allocation to enable achievement of plans and in particular, desired mental health outcomes.
  • Influence legislative reform aimed at improving human rights of people with mental health conditions

About you
You are a dynamic and visionary leader with a passion for mental health care and a track record of success in not-for-profit leadership, ideally at a national level, who is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. You will also appreciate the importance of engaging with lived experience of serious and persistent mental distress and / or caring.
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in CMHA (and its work) as a federated peak body and have experience in a similar environment (Mental Health or Human Services Delivery sectors), at a senior executive level.

Preferred experience and attributes will include:

  • Leading mid-size organisations where complexity dominates
  • Personal gravitas combined with influencing skills and advocacy
  • Highly regarded and well networked within government at senior levels
  • Demonstrate a proactive rather than a reactive approach in driving change.
  • Clarity and commitment when communicating a compelling message to a variety of audiences; inside and outside the organisation
  • Applying strategic analytical capability to ensure solutions are innovative, relevant and commercially sound
