As a nonprofit neurodevelopmental center, we have provided comprehensive services for children with special needs and their families since 1962. Kindering is dedicated to maintaining a highly trained, licensed, and certified team of professionals. Current services include comprehensive developmental assessments; physical, occupational, speech, language, and infant mental health therapy; special education; family counseling; nutrition and feeding therapy; childcare consultation; parenting education; and family resource coordination.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of executive-level experience in a 20+ million-dollar multi-site mission-based organization, preferably as a CFO.
  • Advanced degree in Non-Profit Leadership, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • Advanced financial and data analysis abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting, IT, billing, process improvement, change management, facility management, and executive leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in using MS Office with advanced Excell skills.
  • Ability to learn software such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, HRIS systems, and more.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, ability to follow through on assignments on time and with accuracy, provide clear written and verbal communication, keep up-to-date written and electronic documentation.
  • Significant experience navigating systems of oppression or a sophisticated understanding of systemic oppression in the areas of dis/ability, neurodiversity, race, socioeconomic/class, gender identity and expression, among others.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering with people from historically marginalized backgrounds or in learning through a strong existing practice of cultural humility.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE

To meet Kindering’s mission, provide strategy, leadership, and oversight of Kindering’s finance/accounting, billing (insurance and other program fees), information technology, and facilities operations using methods aligned with our values (belonging, caring, equity, innovation, and integrity). Oversee organizational change management, risk management, and process improvement for the entire agency.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute positively to overall, cross-departmental, agency culture and support related priorities as a member of Kindering’s Executive Team.
  • Model and reinforce agency values: belonging, caring, equity, innovation, and integrity.
  • Oversee finance/accounting, billing (insurance and other program fees), information technology, and facilities operations for the entire agency including Kindering’s four campuses and staff working off-site.
  • Develop and mentor direct reports and oversee departments that are equitable, accurate, customer-service oriented, innovative, and deliver quality and timely results.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of nimble and secure systems (including EMR, ERP) to reduce barriers for staff and increase efficiencies so that Programs and other staff can better meet our mission.
  • Create and implement strategies to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of departments under supervision and the effectiveness of change management, risk management, and process improvement across the entire agency.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with city, state, and federal employment laws and contractor regulations.
  • Manage and partner with various vendors, service providers, and outside legal support as needed.

ACCOUNTING/FINANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as staff liaison to Board Finance and Investment Committees and Kindering’s Board Treasurer in partnership with the CEO.
  • Authorize and make financial transactions for the organizations in coordination with the CEO.
  • Maintain, update, and ensure compliance of accounting policy and procedures manual.
  • Monitor cash flow needs and make operating cash investment recommendations.
  • Provide day to day management and fiduciary oversight of 403b plan, quasi and permanently endowed funds, and short-term operational investment and banking accounts.
  • Prepare budgets including the annual operating and capital budgets, prepare multi-year forecasts, and conduct predictive financial analysis in partnership with agency leaders.
  • Prepare clean external financial audits, tax and other filings, and fiscal monitoring.
  • Manage the determination and proper releasing of restricted donations in accordance with donor restrictions and agency expenses.
  • Supervise and support the Director of Accounting to oversee the accounting department and the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting, finance, payroll, benefits, investments, audits, and other finance related areas.
  • Ensure internal and quality controls over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Ensure that department leaders and agency partners receive accurate and timely information and financial reports.
  • Oversee financial operations including review of monthly financial statements, month-end close and year-end close.

FACILITIES/IT/BILLING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and optimize revenue streams including new program fee structures and processes as needed.
  • Develop and maintain risk mitigation plans.
  • Oversee risk management practices for the agency, including HIPAA compliance.
  • Secure and maintain adequate agency insurance policies with Kindering’s broker in partnership with CEO.
  • Supervise and support the IT Director to oversee the information technology department and implementation of Kindering’s vision and strategy for IT across the entire organization.
  • Supervise and support the Facilities Director to oversee all Kindering facility related needs including safety/security, office management, space utilization, and lease management.
  • Supervise and support the Insurance Billing Manager to ensure proper insurance billing practices and optimize revenue.
