Description:
DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Ten (10) years of experience in hard rock mining inclusive of both underground and open pit extraction. In addition, five (5) years of experience in overseeing the work of senior level engineers and specialized professional level staff;
- Bachelor’s degree in geological/mine engineering (BEng);
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist or ability to obtain same. Professional registration is mandatory; and
- Demonstrated proficiency overseeing open pit and underground mining techniques including drill and blast, load and haul, long hole open stoping, backfill, ventilation, dewatering, and scheduling. Experience in the development phase of a mine or major project with exposure to budgeting and long-range scheduling and supervision of the mine planning function.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the open pit/underground planning and engineering teams, ensuring that construction, development, production, safety and quality targets are achieved;
- Oversee mine planning including open pit/underground design, scheduling, drill and blast, load and haul, mine waste, and development and stope optimization and design to ensure efficient and optimal reserve extraction;
- Coordinate, supervise and ensure timely preparation of Daily, Short, and Medium Term Planning and schedule functions for the open pit and underground projects;
- Review and approve designs, plans and schedules;
- Contribute to costings and annual and Life of Mine (LOM) budgeting;
- Facilitate learning opportunities for and assist with the professional development of the mine engineering team and other technical services staff;
- Liaise and coordinate with geology, geotechnical, open-pit and underground department to achieve operational objectives; and
- Analyze development and production data to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
