CHIEF MINE ENGINEER – 2024-043
Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM), a modern mining company that wants to change what mining means to people. We are currently seeking a Chief Mine Engineer to join our expanding McIlvenna Bay project team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay project site working either a 4-3 schedule for local candidates or a 14 days on/ 14 days off rotation for those further away.
The McIlvenna Bay Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposit is one of Canada’s largest undeveloped VHMS deposits. Following our 2022 feasibility study, we are advancing exploration and detailed engineering activities, and preliminary construction for underground mining and milling facilities. Our focus is on extracting critical minerals sustainably, empowering local communities, supporting circular economies, and protecting the environment for future generations.
As part of the Technical Services Team, the Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating mining engineering activities to maximize ore extraction while ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and cost-effectiveness. They provide technical leadership, manage engineering teams, and collaborate with other departments to optimize Mine operations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or equivalent certification.
- 7+ years of experience in progressively responsible mining engineering roles.
- Strong knowledge of mining software and technology (e.g., mine planning software, CAD software).
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis, mine design, and operational optimization.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement short and medium range design standards and processes.
- Develop and implement long-term mining plans to meet production targets.
- Manage the Life of Mine budgeting processes with assistance from operations and maintenance.
- Optimize mine design, sequencing, and scheduling to maximize efficiency profitability and sustainability.
- Supervise and lead a team of mining engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and risk management procedures.
- Investigate and report accidents or incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Allocate and manage resources, including personnel, equipment, and budget, to achieve production targets.
- Collaborate with maintenance and procurement teams to ensure equipment availability and reliability.
- Conduct geological assessments and design mining methods to optimize ore extraction.
- Develop and update mine plans, with consideration for ventilation, stability analysis, ground support, infrastructure requirements, and underground development.
- Monitor daily mining activities, production rates, and equipment performance.
- Analyze production data and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency.
- Control operational costs, track expenditures, and develop cost-effective mining solutions.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.
- Ensure responsible mining practices, minimize environmental impact, and manage reclamation efforts.
- Collaborate with environmental and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance.
- Conduct geotechnical assessments to assess ground stability, slope design, and safety.
- Recommend and implement measures to mitigate geotechnical risks.
- Foster positive relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and government agencies.
- Address community concerns and engage in community development initiatives.
- Prepare and present technical reports, mining plans, and budget forecasts to senior management.
- Maintain accurate records of mining activities, production data, and geological information.
