JOB DESCRIPTION & SUMMARY
Job Description
The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a senior and strategically important role in the business.
The CoS will be the GC’s right-hand person, sounding board, confidante, and advisor.
The CoS will take on operational responsibility for the OGC to enable the GC to focus on strategic business issues and spend more time with key stakeholders.
The CoS will be responsible for reimagining and transforming the OGC, including reviewing the current structure and operating model while maintaining community and culture, managing communications, improving processes and efficiency, leading on strategic projects, liaising with stakeholders and raising the profile of the OGC in the business.
Responsibilities
Strategic planning: collaborating with the GC to shape the strategy, setting priorities to align with the firm’s vision, and communicating these to others.
Governance: ensuring the appropriate governance structures and procedures are in place for robust decision making.
Project management: overseeing the execution of strategic projects and initiatives key to the success of the OGC, ensuring timely completion and alignment with strategic goals.
Communication: acting as a bridge between the GC and the business, facilitating effective communication and information flow, and liaising both with the GC’s senior stakeholders and direct reports.
Legal function transformation: reviewing the current structure and ways of working and reimagining the OGC, including advising on strategy, operating models, legal technology and digitalisation.
Process improvement: streamlining processes and identifying and implementing best practice to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity, including designing new ways of delivering legal services to the business e.

Crisis Management: anticipating issues, managing crises and mitigating risk.
Facilitating decision making: keeping abreast of developments in the business and within the OGC, and providing relevant information in a timely manner to enable tthe GC to make decisions.
People Management: managing/supporting/empowering the lawyers in the OGC to optimise their performance, raise their profile and brand, demonstrate their value and deliver on the OGC commitments to the business.
Recruitment: leading on all recruitment activities for new members of the OGC.
Talent Management and Succession planning: ensuring that regular career conversations take place, drafting business cases for promotions, and maintaining a succession plan at all levels to ensure resilience within the OGC and reduce attrition.
Profile Raising: articulating and promoting the brand of the OGC in the wider business, e.

External law firm relationship management: liaison with external law firms and managing panel reviews.
