If you are practical, a problem solver, are knowledgeable about quarries and have experience of managing quarry operations including blasting; enjoy working with others; are enthusiastic about sustainable management of land; and are interested in a job that gets you out and about …then this may be the job for you!

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Civil Engineer (Quarries) will be responsible for all aspects of managing, designing and developing the quarries in South Region, with the objective of producing the roadstone required to deliver the annual programme of road construction and maintenance works. The requirement for road stone in South Region is approximately 300 000 tonnes per year, (approximately 20 blasts per year).
The post holder will be responsible for managing the in-house drilling programme, utilising the Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) drill rig, and for designing, organising and supervising quarry and roadline blasts. The drilling programme will be developed in consultation with the other Civil Engineers in the region. The post holder will line manage the drill rig operator and will also line manage a Works Supervisor (Quarries), who will assist in many aspects of the role as directed by the post holder. There are currently 238 quarries recorded in the region, of these approximately 90 are used as required.
Many of these sites need to be remediated and closed, to remove existing hazards, liabilities and management costs. The post holder will develop a programme of remediation for these quarries and this will be actioned as available budget allows.
