Description:

Our client are a North/South of Ireland organisation, responsible for the for the management, maintenance, development and promotion of over 1000 km of inland navigable waterways, principally for recreational purposes.
Our client are urgently seeking applications from experienced Civil Engineers to work on projects in the grand canal metro area, and be based in the greater Dublin area.

Responsibilities:

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Engineer (Operations) will form part of an operational management team. They will oversee management / maintenance, recreational / commercial use, and future development of our client’s Infrastructure within the Grand Canal Metro Area as required. The successful applicant will be required to manage operational staff and consultants / contractors working on our client’s property for implementation of new or refurbishment projects. They will also liaise with user groups for facilitation of events, and work in partnership with third parties and local interests to manage and develop the canals for increased recreational use.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Management

  • Supervise operational staff undertaking maintenance and construction site works, including carrying out risk assessments and safety inspections in accordance with our client’s management systems
  • Manage & supervise consultants and contractors planning and undertaking works on our client’s property, to ensure protection and enhancement of the canal assets
  • Undertake site surveys and asset inspections, carry out studies and evaluations of possible works projects, and draw up associated reports
  • Prepare and co-ordinate initial designs, planning submissions, designs for tender, tender documents, tender appraisals, and project reviews as required to manage the works programme in accordance with statutory requirements and our client’s policies and procedures
  • Manage and report on progress of maintenance & construction programmes / projects to ensure delivery on time, budget, and quality
  • Review and make submissions to planning applications that could impact on our client’s property
  • Liaise with volunteer groups, event organisers or other canal user groups to facilitate increased community involvement and enhanced recreational use of canal amenities. Assist with events as required both during normal and outside normal working hours.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with neighboring residents and groups, or their representatives, regarding management & maintenance issues associated with the canal infrastructure
  • Work with third party groups and authorities in development of canal infrastructure, including leveraging of funding or other resources for enhancement of the canal amenities
  • Manage use of the navigation and land property by all users, including implementing our client’s Byelaws as an Authorised Officer
  • Be part of emergency response procedures for incidents that may occur on the canal infrastructure in or outside of work hours and normally be able to attend at such emergency call outs within 1 - 1.5 hours
