An opportunity is available for a Claims Team Manager (WA/NT) to join our Perth team in a permanent, full-time position.
As the Claims Team Manager – (WA/NT), you will lead a team of four (4) claims staff and provide operational execution of best practice programs and processes to ensure the best possible outcomes for our members. You will manage your own claims portfolio and provide mentorship to a highly experienced and expert team of claims professionals.

Responsibilities:

THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage and lead a team of four (4) Claims staff in the provision of legal services to Avant and its members.
  • Direct the delivery of Claims advice and services to Avant and its members within geographical remit.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for the WA/NT team, monitor operations and actively pursue opportunities for improvement in claims processes, procedures and member outcomes.
  • Manage member claims and investigations in accordance with the relevant Avant claims and investigations guidelines.
  • Support the delivery of medico-legal advice service to Avant members in a 24/7 shift environment.
  • As required assist in the provision of a consistent and efficient claims acceptance service to Avant and provide guidance and advice with respect to indemnification of claims.
  • As directed, and in support of Retention & Growth initiatives, educate members, staff and internal and external bodies in medico-legal, clinical risk and claims matters.
  • Manage the relationship between Claims staff and other Avant departments.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law or Health.
  • Senior claims management experience ideally in a medical indemnity environment.
  • Previous experience in the management of medical indemnity claims practice.
  • Advanced understanding of insurance principles and insurance law.
  • Basic financial acumen.
  • Strong people leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated Health law knowledge.
  • Relationship building skills, proactive in developing relationships & understanding customer requirements.
  • Excellent communication, relationship building and advocacy skills.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills in a legal environment.
