Job Description:
The Classification and Compensation Specialist (“C&C Specialist”) provides expertise in the development, implementation, and administration of the College’s compensation programs. This position works collaboratively with Partners, HR Services and their client groups in implementing wage and salary administration, job evaluation, performance management, and organizational redesign initiatives. This position works closely with the HR team, in particular with the Partners, HR Services to provide coordinated advisory services on compensation matters. The C&C Specialist ensures appropriate and consistent application of job evaluation and compensation plans, collective agreements, terms and conditions of employment, College policies and procedures. This position serves as a resident expert and may provide advice that crosses over multiple HR functions such as labour relations, recruitment and selection, performance management, or organizational development. The C&C Specialist also participates on leadership teams, special assignments, projects and initiatives.
Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in human resources management, business, or a related field of study.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), a desirable asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively senior human resources experience in compensation, classification, or job evaluation. Preference for HR experience in public sector or large, complex multi-union organizations.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Considerable experience working with point factor job evaluation systems, organizational design, and compensation practices and related legislation.
  • Experience in interpreting organizational policies and procedures and collective agreement requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of employment and labour legislation and government policies (e.g., Employment Standards, Labour Relations Code, Employment Equity, Human Rights Code).
  • Intermediate to Advanced working level with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio).
  • Experience working in a highly automated HR environment with an integrated enterprise HR and payroll information system such as Workday or PeopleSoft.

  • Strong writing skills to effectively write job descriptions and rationale.
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, and deal tactfully and diplomatically with employees from all levels of the College. Comprehension of the importance of the balance of confidentiality and disclosure necessary for effective communications and requirements of collective agreements.
  • An accomplished communicator, interviewer, and active listener with a demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence within a collaborative framework.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical reasoning skills, and judgment.
  • Highly developed analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively with considerable independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a team member, contributing to the development and enhancement of the team.
  • Strong presentation skills in order to conduct training sessions and informational seminars as required.
  • High energy, goal-oriented individual who thrives on achieving outcomes through consultative and collaborative methods.

Salary Range:
$43.81 - $64.25 per hour

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC).
